Problem solved

I made a double batch of chocolate glaze and poured the whole thing over the mutant cake. Yes, it's still rather odd-looking--but now it is decadently odd-looking. Very much improved.

And, indeed, so many things in life are much improved by the addition of liberal amounts of dark chocolate.
