Health report and a "recipe"
Jan. 21st, 2007 05:33 pmI am sick, coughing, tired. slept all afternoon.
But yesterday I made super-easy barbecue ribs, which I'm writing down what I did so I can find it if I forget.
Stupidly Easy Ribs:
3# or more of country style ribs
bottle of BBQ sauce of choice (or make your own)
Put ribs in a 9X13" pan, cover with foil, bake at 350 for two hours. Pour sauce over, bake covered for half an hour; remove foil and bake uncovered for half an hour.

Still on the planet...
Mar. 31st, 2006 05:40 pmMostly over a several-day bout with stomach flu, still having some pain but most of the symptoms are gone. On the plus side, my foot/ankle seems to be improving now, still have a nice big lump there but the bruising is fading fast, and I'm not limping nearly as much as I have been. This has been a hell of a winter.
So I've been off-line, and in fact off-everything (when you are too sick to watch TV you are sick! :)). But mostly better now, and waiting for tonight's Ostara rit (luckily I had a script from last year that I was able to tweak a bit, because I definitely wasn't writing anything new this week...)

Tuesday afternoon
Nov. 22nd, 2005 04:07 pmWinter storm watch, Wednesday eve through Friday morning. Snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are expected Wednesday night... with similar accumulations possible Thursday and Thursday night. In addition to the snowfall... north winds of 20 to 30 mph with frequent gusts to 40 mph will create blizzard conditions in the watch area. I don't think we would be going anywhere then anyway.
But Dan got the new tire on my car, so I could if I wanted to.
Still coughing, been holding steady over the last 3-4 days (no worse but no better). Which puts me in good company, I know a lot of folks who have plateaued similarly. My voice is starting to go, I think.
Nothing exciting going on right now. Obviously. :)

I made it through the night in bed last night (no more comfortable than the couch, also no less) and was not evicted, so I guess I can stay :). I really think the coughing has lessened. Still sleeping a lot. Still can't seem to get my lungs full of air but I imagine that will pass as well.
I hung a Thor's hammer in my car this afternoon, have not yet poured out a bottle.
Today I'm working my way through the soul complex discussion in Coulter's Germanic Heathenry. I'm still hoping to find something clear (the discussion in the new Our Troth was iffy in that respect--althouh nice that they had sections on the Anglo-Saxon and the Norse views) and coherent. I'd be happier still if I had good original sources for this stuff.

Oct. 22nd, 2005 01:56 pmStill sick, just online for a moment to write down my rune-a-day. Actually the main reason I came downstairs at all is because my blood pressure meds are down here, else I'd probably still be in bed :).
I do need to go to the other computer and format the Freyja Fact Sheet for tonight's god study. Then I can go lie down.

Jul. 10th, 2004 12:13 pmWe got a letter from the school today saying that (as of June 29) the kindergarten classes are going to be held in the regular elementary school instead of the early childhood center, which is where they've been for years. This is actually a good thing, because it means that Dan can drop them both off in the morning easily. And younger daughter is thrilled to be attending school in the same building as her sister. (The elementary school also has a much better playground, which she did not fail to notice. :)) I'm just wondering how they are going to manage it--I've never noticed empty rooms there, where are they going to put the new classes? And in less than two months, yet!
I'm having Sims issues. :) Skins and so forth have been either crashing the system or else giving me headless people (elder daughter actually rather likes the headless people), so I need to sit down and figure out which I'm missing parts of. I'm pretty sure it's skins that are doing it, anyway. Luckily I had planned on spending a lot of time on the computer this weekend (Dan is out of town at a SCA event) anyway. Not too much time, though.
We got the Porter translation of Beowulf today; we have the Heaney, it will be interesting to compare the two.
I'm giving up pop again, I think--too much sugar, too much sodium. I've done it before, and it doesn't take too long until you don't really want it anymore.

Shopping day
May. 7th, 2004 09:16 pmI've just finished ordering a home blood pressure monitor--Dan suggested that as long as I was doing that, we should see about getting a otoscope as well, so we did.
Earlier we went to look at mattresses (we need a new bed), we were thinking of getting the slightly pricier option of two twins to replace the king-sized mattress upstairs ( the bed went up there before the bookcases were built in--it will have to be cut up and tossed out a window because it's not getting out the same way!). Realized we would actually have to get two long twins, which are even pricier. So we came back home--going to to some more measuring--see if there's any possible way to get a king mattress up there that we haven't thought of--or even a queen (downgrading in size, which is not great, but we could afford a better-quality mattress that way and have a bit more room in the room, so it's something we are considering). Maybe we can figure out something by next week.
You know, I don't even particularly like shopping.

May. 1st, 2004 12:07 amOh yeah, and I finally got a George Foreman grill the other day. I ended up getting the extra-large. I've decided that I really like this thing. Only made burgers on it so far--but I like burgers, and I never make them because it's something I've always been incapable of. I'm not a bad cook, but for some reason I've never been able to make a hamburger that's not raw in the middle, burnt on the outside, or (usually) both. So this is way cool. You don't even have to turn them, how great is that?
I was also impressed by the amount of grease that ended up in the drain pan. The dog was impressed as well when it ended up mixed in with his dinner.
One more step toward healthier eating!

Mar. 15th, 2004 11:33 amI've decided to stop worrying about next weekend's Ostara. I'm sure that whatever they-who-are-planning-it come up with will be fine. I have a short piece prepared for Ostara and I just remembered that I have a longer piece for Sif that I wrote and have never used. (So yeah, that's why I think I've got a chance at not worrying so much. :)) What gets done, gets done; what doesn't, doesn't. (Let's see how long I can hold that thought...)
I'm going to try to catch up some on online stuff today (that and maybe take a nap--still not quite well).

Elder daughter forgot her shoes today, and I just got back from bringing them to school. (This would be less annoying if I hadn't asked her last night and this morning whether she had everything! :) But no matter, these things happen.) So I went out, and I forgot my gloves (must be genetic!), and I fell in the snow on the way back into the house, and now I'm awfully chilly and going to go wrap up in a quilt and lie down on the couch.
Yeah, I definitely appear to be getting another wretched cold! :P

Dec. 29th, 2003 09:00 pmElder daughter has pretty well appropriated the Sims game :); that's all right, she's enjoying herself.
Tomorrow I go to the doctor, going to find out if I keep taking the beta blockers or not (and I'm dreading having blood pressure taken--I can't stand having that done, I'd rather be stuck with ten needles than have that blood pressure cuff put on me once!--this of course does not bode well for good blood pressure figures, lol!); not sure what to hope for, really.
And I think I know what all I'm making for New Year's, or rather I know what I'm going to go buy ingredients to make--whether it all gets made depends on how much time I end up with (I'd forgotten about Pagan Coffee Night tomorrow, so I don't have that time to work with--but I think I can probably get it all done regardless, just won't be quite such a leisurely schedule of cooking :)).
I'm tired. Slept late today and am still tired. Life is dull after the last month's flurry of activity, maybe that's got something to do with it :).

Dec. 3rd, 2003 02:58 pmThe steel wool in my throat tells me that I am sick again. Or possibly still sick. My guess would be the former. (Hey, maybe I can get through my whole season's worth of colds and flu before the end of December!) But I'm drinking grapefruit juice. I like grapefruit juice, but only the high-end kind, and can only self-justify buying it when I'm sick. So if I'm drinking grapefruit juice, I am probably sick.
I went into town last night and signed us up for a year at the gym; I haven' t been since we let our membership lapse in April, so I know I have a lot of rebuilding to do in terms of strength and endurance. Not that I was any athlete at best, but I was, at least, more fit.
