Picking up stitches is the biggest pain in the ass I've yet encountered in knitting. It's not that it's hard, it's that it's soooo tedious.

Remind me not to choose any more projects that involve picking up stitches.

Guess that means no socks. I doubt my eyes would let me see to do it with tiny sock yarn, anyway.

Gah.

If you do a short row heel you can knit socks without picking up sticks

Cat Bordhi's socks in New Pathways in Sock Knitting also avoid picking up stitches--she uses short-row heels and a sudden increase at the end of the foot that makes the back of the heel taller.

However, I still have fitting problems with her socks from time ot time. 8-(

I really like her heels, but the fit is a bit tight around the ankles I think

I've never been able to understand crochet--numerous people have tried to teach me and all have failed. I don't really have a Knitting Brain either but can usually figure out how to wave the Magic Sticks to make them do what I want.

Well if it's any consolation, I haven't even tried to understand knitting yet. Looks super-hard to me. So I applaud your mad skillz.
