Hail to shining Freyja, driver of cats,
lover of Odin, bride of wandering Od,
holder of peerless Brisingamen,
holder of the hearts of lovers,
holder of the souls of warriors,
mistress of sturdy, high-walled Folkvangr,
goddess on whom we all call for aid
when love and lust have sent us to madness.
Glorious Freyja, fair one, free one,
mighty one, desirable one, peerless beauty
whose glance could shake the foundation
of any certainty, clear-sighted goddess
whose sharp eyes pierce any veil of feeling,
whose keen wit perceives what others may hide,
who knows the worth of pain in truth,
who knows the price of joy in falsehood,
who portions each as deserved, as proper.
Freyja, kind yet brutal, tender yet severe,
player at games of love and of war,
of all life's trials, you give to us the sharpest,
