To Athena

Athena, flint-eyed daughter of excellent Zeus,
clear-headed goddess, bold-hearted patron of craft.
Bright Athena, passion guided by forethought,
kind one who draws near us, who flees no battle,
your favor sought by many, your presence so strong,
so penetrating, so unmistakable.
Athena, shining war-maid, child of wisdom,
I pray to you. Precision and unmuddled thought
I ask of you, crisp reason and blessed clarity,
surety and conviction, quick wit and quick action.
Give me eyes to see far, to see true, to see within;
give me heart to bear it, give me strength to hold fast.

Do you object if I save this to my "memories" on LJ?... Athena is the only deity who has ever seemed to "call" to me... but I'm still working on figuring out why.

Sure, no problem :).

I get the sense that, if any of the Hellenic gods are actively recruiting, Athena is. I know of a number of folks who consider her a patron, and she seems to be very accessible in general (even I have had an Athena moment :)).

I don't have a patron... and usually because I'm ... I think the word is pantheistic (I believe all gods are just aspects of the whole)... I don't normally feel drawn to a specific name... the only reason I'll call on a specific name is if I need help in the aspect they represent. But I've had several "hints" that have come upon me that have drawn me to her... this has been like 2 years now and I haven't done a lot of looking into it... but... it's remained in the back of my mind and every time I see/hear the name Athena, it comes back to me that I need to look into it more.

You might want to do a re-read of some of her myths, or even a bit of research into the history of her worship, just to see if anything there strikes a chord with you.

I'm a fairly extreme hard polytheist myself (I see all gods as individual entities), so keep that in mind when I say this :), but I do get the sense that Athena, even more than some other gods, is well aware of what's going on in the world and takes an interest in it and its people. I'm pretty sure that I'm not one of "hers," but even I have no doubts that she is around!
