Here's a link to an article about word hate:

Linguists: "Moist" makes women cringe

You know, I can't think of a single word I have the sort of visceral reaction to that this article (and some of the commentary) talk about. Now, images, that I can think of a number that give me that "ew!" factor. But words? Nope.

Now I am wondering if this means I am less of a verbal person than I thought I was. :)

Oh, and by the way:

Personally, I think these people are nuts! Oh wait, that might offend some men... Seriously, even if I wasn't as comfortable and open with sexual conversation as I am, I just don't get why a word would have such an effect on someone. The only reason I could possibly think women might be offended by the word is maybe it makes them think of diapers or menstruation. As for sexual arousal, what's wrong with that? We're human and It's 2007! I'm with the feminist absurdity group on this one. In any case, I'll have to check out the sources listed here another time. Interesting read, though, thanks.

I actually know someone who has a strong hatred of 'moist' and a few other words. It seems odd to me!

Thanks--it's all crap (I'm really not a fiction person) but it's stretching me, which is what I need. :)

Well, "moist" makes me think of cake, but that's due to too many commercials, I'm sure.

I mean, "moist" isn't going to do you much good during sex, what you need there is "wet." :)

Interesting--as far as I know I don't know anyone who does, but I suppose I wouldn't know unless I went around saying "moist" all the time, which typically I don't. :)

Yup. And that's the word I've seen used in porn. I do smell a Women's Studies conspiracy here. And frankly, except for cakes I would usually use "damp" and that is the word I would expect people to find icky.

If I still taught comp, this would have been a fun topic.
