Beneath the Surface

Winternights is this weekend; I have a piece I wrote for Hella last year that I want to use again, and we are moving our honoring of the dead to the sumbel, so that's not a prepared thing anyway.

I think I'm making corned beef and cabbage, and probably a cheesecake of some kind. Yeah, I know, it's always cheesecake! So I'm going through the Kraft site looking for something good--if nothing strikes me, I'll go with one of my old stand-bys, but I'll look around first.

It snowed today, even stayed on the ground for quite a while, but it's gone now and it wasn't the first Big Snow. (the first Big Snow can disappear but it's a more important snow somehow, not this "thinking about it" sort of thing). It does remind me that I must go out into the woods soon and find myself a likely branch for cutting runes. If I go alone I can find one I like without distraction; if I take Dan he can tell me what kind of tree it's from, which is a consideration. We'll see.

And tomorrow it's October, which means I need to start thinking about Winternights. Particularly I need to start working on a piece honoring Hel, which may be a challenge.
