daughter of sea-faring, wealth-giving Njord,
sister of mighty Frey, granter of good,
holder of peerless Brisingamen,
driver of cats, skillful stirrer of strife,
desired by many, taken by none,
given only to few, only by your will.
Freyja, we know you in the spark of lust
in lovers' eyes, in each quick step toward self,
in the first heart-lightening signs of spring,
in all the needs that drive us together
and in all the needs that turn us away.
