What is this "Dreamwidth" of which you speak?

New journaling platform that promises to not have the contempt for users that 6-Apart and the Russian owners have shown; in fact pledges not to be ruled by the profit motive. They also intend to make it easy both to copy your LJ there and to simultaneously post there and here. Oh, and they split the "friends" thing into a list you read and a list you trust--which can be done here with reading filters but is a pain in the butt. Info somewhat in the middle of things, but with useful links: http://synecdochic.livejournal.com/326567.html . I meant to jump on this one but got protractedly sick and then my laptop died, so I can't do LJ at work and as a result am wayyy behind with everything and missed the boat. But as you can see from that entry, there's still a week to try to get on board before they throw it fully open.

Hope that makes sense, I am late to bed! Great swathes of my f-list already have invite codes and are using it as their primary journals. LJ is in bad trouble with a large number of its older and more long-term users.

M

A new journal platform that caused much to-do in LJ-based fandom because LJ-based fandom is putatively moving there.

I'm over there right now. It's a neat service, and importing your lj and doing crossposts is incredibly easy. Both are functional -- getting lj friends to show up on your "Reading circle" is supposed to be supported soon.

Don't intend to leave LJ, but I like dw a lot.

As far as I can tell, a place for people who hate 6A to go and do what you can do here until DW does something that makes people pissed off and act like they're just becoming 6A.

I'm doing both lj and dreamwidth now-- dreamwidth makes it easy. I've wanted an option to lj since the last lj purges. I occasionally paint and blog adult images and don't need to live with the anxiety of losing my blog. If slash writers and artists are well looked after, I'll be fine.

It's a new blogging site that purports to be more user-friendly than lj. So far it's been the source of much excitement but I don't know if the improvements will justify a large scale migration from lj. It may shake out like insanejournal, greatestjournal and vox -- everyone gets one in case everyone else moves, no-one moves, life goes on as usual... It remains to be seen. I'm going to get a DW at the end of the month when they open for business proper and then wait and see.
